About Us

When a Quechua woman from Cochabamba and a white guy from Maine needed to making a living together in Bolivia promoting something we both loved, The Spitting Llama Bookstore & Outfitter was born on March 10th, 2007.  Now Rommy's Dad Mario, sister Susan, and brother in law Huari are involved in managing the stores- we're a family business and we treat our employees and customers like part of our family.

We are Bolivia's only multi-lingual bookstores and sell a wide range of camping and trekking gear to foreigners and nationals alike. We are a 100% Bolivian-owned business and have 10 full and part time employees at our 3 stores in La Paz, Copacabana and Cochabamba. We are proud to carry books in over 30 languages and also specialize in indigenous languages of the region such as Quechua and Aymará.

The Spitting Llama Bookstore & Outfitter strives to improve Bolivia's social environment and ecology. We celebrate people of cultures, races and sexual orientations. We promote literacy and learning of both foreign languages and Bolivia's indigenous languages. We strive to be a resource for locals and foreigners seeking education on Bolivia's magnificent cultures and environment.

We hope you like our stores and please don't hesitate to contact us!
